Closing Autocad Drawing 1 Ask Want to Save

  1. #1

Default User is receiving an error writing/closing file on autosave

I have a user who is receiving the error "Error Writing/Closing file" when AutoCAD 2005 performs an automatic save. This is with several different drawings that will save fine for other users. I have relocated the automatic save path to a location on the local computer that he has full permissions. Please tell me that someone has some other ideas. This issue is driving me up the wall.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

For starters, take a look at the following thread...

    Corrupt Files

    Have a good one, Mike

    Mike,

Thanks for the input. My first thought on this issue was corrupt file. I have been able to produce it with multiple files however. It is almost like something is interfering with the auto save. I just can not put my finger on what it is.

does the folder that AutoCAD is trying to autosave to exist?

    CCowgill,

Yep the folder exists. I even created a new folder in an area on the local computer that I knew the user had full read/write access for. I then re-pathed the auto save and it worked for about 8 days before the error came back. I have been working this one for almost 2 months. Thanks for the input CCowgill.

Have you checked the drive? Is there enough room on the drive? Have you cleaned out the temp files and any old autosave files?

If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

    Opie,

Dirve space is 40 gig. I have removed all temp and sv$ files from the computer. Thanks for the input. I tied into a good one didnt I.

    Hi J,

I was searching around and found THIS tid-bit. Basically, try renaming/removing the automatic save directory and recreate it, verify the permissions, and point Automatic Save Path Location to it again.

It may not work because you have already tried changing the path to the local drive, but at least it may be worth a try.

Also, are there any proxy entities in the suspect drawings? If so maybe THIS will help. It looks like a quick test to see if this is the case is to turn visretain off and see if it works. This is from a Release 13 post, so it may not apply any more, but I would check anyway, just in case.

And a question: do you have quotas set on your drives?

    Hey Tim,

I will check that second link out. I have researched that first one that you gave me. I had not gone back into the Acad13 and Acad12 venue yet. Thanks for the input. I will let you all know what happens

A co-worker just had the same error. We could not save on the network, or the local drive.

    A SOLUTION
I saved the file to a DXF format, opened this DXF file and SaveAs to a DWG file in a different name. This worked for us.

    FOOTNOTE:
In our case, we had the problem in ONLY ONE file, not multi files on the network.
